i will be visiting Dc next week and i was wondering if anyone could recommed a great place from the arlington side to get a great skyline view of Washington? from the day, preferably the night skyline. I heard there a couple of restaurants that have the view. thanks so much!

The Ruth Chris in Crystal City has a great view of DC.
Or you could just get yourself a Suite at the JW Marriot and have the best possible view of the city.
BTW I know you requested Arlington, but in DC the rooftop at the Hotel Washington now a W has opened back up. It has an amazing view of the White House and downtown, although I have heard it's packed because it recently opened so I don't know how busy it would be or if they take reservations?

re: alkapal
did the elevator "manager" body-block you, condescend you and lecture you on arriving closer to your reservation time (when you got there EARLY!!!) OH NO WAIT. that was me. i'm so torn. the view is so breathtaking. but both times i was there i was treated like some kind of ingrate.
anyway sorry you didn't get to go up. i would definitely suggest getting on opentable (search for POV lounge at the W) and booking something. Even though the people who work there are total snobs, it really is a sight to be seen and everyone should go at least once. good luck!

re: littlew1ng
we had our wedding reception at the hotel washington's rooftop restaurant/lounge/patio (can't recall the name, exactly) in 1994.
i'm happy to hear it hasn't been totally enclosed, and will have to make a reservation. i always liked taking guests from out of town up there for beers or cocktails. i guess that spontaneity will now be impossible since it has become trendified.
i hope they have something nicer to sit on than the red patent leather sofas that are in the lobby. ;-).

Hi:
Windows Over Washington Restaurant at Doubletree in Crystal City, VA:
http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/DCAAEDT-Doubletree-Hotel-Crystal-City-National-Airport-Virginia/dining.doThen upstairs is a rotating bar for after dinner drinks: Skydome Lounge. Great different views of DC.
Also check out Goldstar Events. I went to the Comedy Zone Revue at Windows Over Washington Restaurant a few weeks ago, it was pretty good. You never know what level comedy you're going to get or how "raw" it will be. A jazz combo plays until the comedy starts. http://www.goldstar.com/go_share/1198581
Have fun!
