  1. Sounds like the dates may have slipped a bit, but it is good to know those two stores are still in the works.

    1. I'm thrilled to have Wegman's coming. My question is at what point do these upscale grocery stores become like CVS and Rite AId with one on every corner. They're opening a Fresh Market in Hingham, that already has the Fruit Center (the original high end), Stop & Shop, Star Market and Whole Foods. They must think they'll make money.

They'll stop when they can't get sites and/or can't get financing. I was surprised that Wegman's was able to get a site in Westwood, but then it's part of a giant development called Westwood Station - which is currently on hold - and thus sites have opened up because development has changed from malls to life style centers and multi-use development.

The development in Westwood may receive state money for infrastructure but otherwise it's on hold pending financing. And given the state of housing and office markets, I wonder what exactly does move ahead and when. The retail portion was set to build first, I believe, but this is not a good retail environment, so ...

      2. Personally, I find this a bit depressing. I had been looking forward to Wegman's opening, but 2012? I'm officially taking it off my radar.
