Good Tapas in the City? Best first date restraunt?

the_noobie_foodie Jul 23, 2009 06:26 PM

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good or great tapas restraunt/bar in around Baltimore City?
My friend had told me of one in Rockville but i would much prefer going to the city because of the atmosphere and there are so many more things to do.
I am trying to find the perfect place to take someone on a first date and feedback would be much appreciated.

Pazo in Fell's Point is generally regarded as the ne plus ultra of Baltimore tapas. It's a beautiful space, very swanky and romantic for date. Its one down side is that it can get loud, which can be a pain when you're trying to make get-to-know-you chit chat.

I took a "nearly first date" to Tapas Teatro on Charles Street a couple of years ago. Ate al fresco, enjoyed good tapas and had a really nice time. The memory of good tapas remains - even though the relationship doesn't!

Mezze in Fells Point. Not quite as cramped or as loud as Pazo. Afterwards, you and your date can pub crawl or just meander around the harbor area, especially if it's a lovely evening. FoiGras

I would second Tapas Teatro -- my wife and I have had a number of fun, romantic evenings there. One piece of advice: it can get really crowded there at peak hours (approx. 6:30-9PM) on Fridays and Saturdays. If you go later, the crowd thins out and you'll be able to hear one another and not feel rushed to give up your table. Have fun!

Mezze. I was on a date once at Tapas Teatro and we were asked to finish our bottle of wine and the bar (very tiny busy bar) so they could re-seat the table. Mezze has nice outdoor seating and several different dining rooms to make the experience more intimate.
