Best Gnocchi in SF?

Hi all! I will be in San Fran for a conference starting tomorrow. I plan on checking out farmerbrown, Dosa, and either Millennium or Greens. I was hoping my fellow chowhounds in SF could help me find the Italian restaurant with the best Gnocchi in town. North Beach would be nice but not required. The places I have looked at on yelp are: Firenze, Osteria, Da Flora, Franchino, Ristorante Milano and Frascati.

Thanks in advance!!!

    1. Da Flora is mind-blowing, I admit I haven't tried the gnocchi at the other places you researched. I prefer the sage to the pancetta, but both are memorable.

You, I agree. The sweet potato gnocci at Da Flaora is incredible. I just wish the portion was larger!

I haven't tried gnocchi at too many restaurants but I really enjoyed the one at Allegro Romano. It was definitely a guilty pleasure, firm but not too heavy gnocchi with rich gorgonzola sauce. I wouldn't say mind-blowing though. I'll have to try Da Flora next.

      2. Unfortunately the best gnocchi around here isn't in San Francisco, it is in Oakland at Oliveto. Oliveto is right next to the Rockridge BART station so it is pretty easy to get to from San Francisco.

        1. I love the sweet potato gnocchi at Da Flora. I am not a gnocchi-in-SF expert for many reasons, principal among them that I am no expert, but also because I hate sodden, heavy versions and out of fear rarely order it. Please let us know what you end up trying and if you enjoyed it.

          1. If you are looking for a simple gnocchi al pesto, Caesar's can't be beat. Definitely an old-school place that is packed with SF natives on a Friday night.

            1. Is there really a "best" gnocchi? To me gnocchi is comfort food, and comfort foods generally are immune to superlatives.

But my current favorite, based on a limited sampling, is from Valentina Restorante on Cortland St. Not destination worthy, perhaps, but a favorite neighborhood place. Both their pesto and gorganzola versions hit the spot.

              1. Zuni. The preparation varies but I think they have gnocchi on the dinner menu every day.
