Bostonians coming to Penn.

Hi all. My wife and I are taking our "cah from hahvad yahd" on a little road trip to Gettysburg, Lancaster and Hershey. Any recs for good local places to eat? Like all types of food and can be fancy or hole in the wall. Would like to find a nice German place if possible.

Could you be a little more specific?

My personal fave fine dining in Lancaster City is John J. Jeffries. Also: Effie Ophelia, Fenz, Culturas at El Serrano. A casual lunch spot is Isaac's Deli - they are a regional chain, located all over the county, as well as in Hershey.

Fine dining in Hershey would be The Circular Dining Room at Hotel Hershey. More casual could be Fire Alley or What If... at Spinners.

Sorry, I'm not real familiar with dining in Gettysburg. If you are looking for something really special not too far from there look in to the Shepherd's Mansion in Hanover - I haven't been yet, but my hubby is promising a trip, and the chef's blog makes me drool regularly.

I think that you should be able to quickly find websites for every place I mentioned with a quick google search.

    Have a great trip!

Great trip to gettysburg! Love it there and will definately return. We took a trive to Chubby's BBQ (emmitsburg) and it was delicious!! The ribs were flavorful, tender and smokey! The sides were great too as was the peach cobbler. It is a tad dirty in the dining room though and my wife and I were harrassed by 10 or so flies while we ate. Would definately return, but will eat outside at the picnic table! Also tried Ernies Texas Weiner Lunch. Not bad for chili dogs, but I have had better. Great local atmosphere in the place though. Lastly, drove to the Haufbrau house (forget which town) which was pleasantly divey. I liked the mid 60's decor splashed with bavarian decorations. the food was decent and a great value! soup salad and a main for like 9 or 10 bucks. They have a lot of German specialties. The saurbraten was just okay, but the rolled cabbage and sides were good. Not a gourmet meal by any stretch, but a cute local place with decent food at a great value.
