Splendid at 88 Harbord St. is reopening on July 28 and I have made a reservation for July 29. How long has the restaurant been closed and is their new management or chef in place? What were the previous experiences of CH posters at Splendido?
I am leaving Toronto on July 31 and will not be back for at least a year and would like to try this restaurant before I leave.
My experience was pleasent, at first I was intimidated by the service(they are very robotic in their manner), but landed an awesome waiter so it was cool. The food was good, well executed and simple. They were also very accommodating to any issues regarding diets and allergies. I guess the only downer is that it was expensive, and the food i had was nothing special. I had a good time anyway, because the food was delicious and the service was great.
I don't think many of the past critiques of a restaurant reopening with an entirely different menu/feel/price point/"creative power"/etc. are going to be valid. I'm sure someone will post their experience shortly after the reopening -- maybe even the night of the 28th.
Splendido was consistently one of the best restaurants in the city. Mostly very well-executed fine dining dishes with great attention to ingredients, flavour, and technique.
Closed for 4 weeks.
Kitchen staff are reportedly the same.
Some turnover in wait staff.
Chef and Management have essentially been running the place all of this year - the former principals moved to Nota Bene last year.
