Bishop's (Vancouver)

As any of you who read my posts know, I can't resist making a pun or otherwise being frivolous in my reports. This one is different. I just can't be flippant about Bishop's. Part of it is my admitted and long standing Chow crush on John Bishop despite recent White Spot ads (!). But it's mainly because his restaurant seems to be capable of serving up really good food every day and for many many years. It's not fussy, the ingredients are high quality and it tastes really good. How many restaurants can do that reliably for so long, whether the owner is there or not? There are no gimmicks, apart from trying to stay local, it's not flashy, it's just good. Maybe that is not sexy or new but I find it very attractive. I'm just going to post some as-usual-slightly-fuzzy pictures for you to ogle and tell you that in my opinion, you should go, and soon. You will not have to worry about ordering "the wrong dish" because they will all be solid. You will have a really good meal served by top-notch staff in a relaxing, adult environment. Yes, you will pay the shekels but I think it will be worth it.

=Sigh= I've had a few lovely meals there, but nothing recent. Thanks for the reminder.

BTW, what's the dish with the log house of something fried (#3 under "four more")? Looks good!

I think that was beef tenderloin with yam fries -- it was a work function and about all I could do to sneak the pix I got; note taking was kind of out of the question. Sorry about the lack of detail... I wonder if Bishop's has a menu archive somewhere (how geeky is that?).

...and "Bishop's" has so much pun-potential! Booyah!

Thanks for the post. It's been a very long time since I've been to Bishop's (I believe it was our first anniversary 16 years ago!!!).
It looks like it's high time for a return trip!

A short rib open ravioli, IIRC. I believe they change the menu frequently though...

Wow, my instincts know shortribs even by not seeing them! When I looked at the picture I was like - "mmmm, that's what I would have ate"...but had no clue what it was!
