you could belly up to the bar at Grand Isle for starters, but I'd steer clear of the dining room.
in the warehouse district, you have RioMar, La Boca, Emeril's, Cochon. and in the CBD, I'd eat at the bar at Luke and order all the apps and have a local brew. cheers!

Emerils "NOLA" at the bar watching the chef at the grill ! Great if you are alone. Only a half dozen blocks away off Chartres. Order the fresh Texas Redfish encrusted in garlic with bacon butter sauce. If you don't absolutely love it - write me and I will send you a check !!!

Exactly what are you looking for. There is a "local flavor" to the Grill Room at the Windsor Court Hotel. If you opt (not inexpensive, but worth the $), do take in the murals, and ask for a "sheet" on each one.

We also enjoyed 7 on Fulton, just blocks away. While we were there for the food, I will admit that the "bar scene" was very active. Web site: http://www.7onfulton.com/
