Lots of good breakfasts (unfortunately most a cab ride long walk or average).
I live 10 minutes walk west of of your hotel, so speaking from experience.

Breakfast spots tend to get mobbed (at least the ones that stand out).

      Cabs, but worth it:
Bongo Room (10-15 mins - two locations: wicker park and south loop, not sure which one's closest, map it online). Great breakfast creations on top of standards, get a chocoloate tower of power to share or some other goey goodness,

WIshbone (10 mins - West loop, West Washington/Morgan). Great southern breakfast, I really like the andouille hash and biscuit. Also have regular american breakfasts. Assortmant of "cakes" crab cake, salmon cake, black bean cake, all very good.

      Walk:
5 mins: Hate to admit the chain, but Grand Lux Cafe does a nice breakfast (W Ontario & Rush).
I just can't think of anything else in a 10 minute walk other than the pastry shop at the Peninsula (street level, can't think of name it's good).

El: Red Line to Chinatown for Dim Sum. Easiest = Phoenix (can see if from El stop); My favorite = Shui Wah (chinatown square), no carts, order from check off menu, may have to share a table.

Pierrot Gourmet at the Peninsula. Get an outdoor table, relax, and watch the commotion over at Giordano's and Rosebud. The Wedgewood china is a nice touch too.

Their french toast and pancakes approximate dessert creations. I also like their burrito. Speaking in a completely biased manner, i like the original Bucktown location a lot more than the South Loop one.

Joe's is great and you can get a terrific steak as well. It is not stone crab season so the claws are not fresh, but all the other seafood and fish offerings are very good. Walk the course and then you can enjoy 12 different house-made pies for dessert.

Kingston mines is a 15 minute cab ride from downtown, so dinner is not restrained. If it's reopened by the time of your trip, try MErcat a la Planxa. Spanish tapas and grill, great drinks on South Michigan Ave, still 15-20 (and $18 with tip) to kingston mines.

The closest Red Line station is Fullerton, which is almost a half mile from Kingston Mines.
