Pure Perfect Platonic Prime Rib
Went back to Keen's last night. I had recently seen a TV show about Lawry's The Prime Rib in LA and how great it was. Never been there but I can guarantee it ain't Keen's. The prime rib was utter (udder?) perfection. Add a Murphy's Stout and some horse radish sauce, a cherry pepper and some rolls and I'm in prime rib heaven.

Keens is truly incredible and one of my favorite places on earth. Their prime rib is such a treat, however I actually think Old Homestead has the best prime rib I have ever had. Keens is a VERY close second in the prime rib department though. To me Keens' best steak is their porterhouse.
I have also had the prime rib at Strip House and it was great, but not as good as Old Homestead or Keens. Strip House's porterhouse is amazing.
I have not had the opportunity to have the prime rib at Smith and Wollensky yet, however fellow steak afficionados tell me it MAY be the best around. I will try soon and report back.

Lawry's Prime Rib is a totally different experience. It's focused around just one cut of meat. Many of the sides are prepared tableside. It is an old fashoned (more of a post WWII) American formal dining experience, whereas Keens harkens back much further. They are both great experiences but as different as Barney Greengrass from Katzes (hope I didn't bust the analogy). If you don't get to LA, try the Prime Rib on Chicago's Miracle Mile...
