Fine dining close to the Ritz

Ok, our friends are coming to New Orleans in August (on a friday and saturday) and are staying at the Ritz...I think one night we will pick them up and take them to a neighborhood place like Dick and Jenny's but I need your favorite fine dining that is very walkable from the Ritz (they would probably prefer quarter)...any suggestions? I suppose a lunch suggestion would be good too. I'm new to the city, know a lot of great places to try from all of your suggestions, but still am not clear on locations...

  1. pretty much everywhere in the french quarter and CBD is within walking distance of the Ritz. my list would probably start with August, Iris, Galatoire's and Cuvee for dinner. all a very easy walk. Stella is a bit of a farther walk but certainly not out of reach.

    1. In my opinion, walking anywhere from the Ritz can be a dicey proposition. On that end of Canal Street, I wouldn't say it is unsafe, but its best to be aware of your surroundings, just like any other city the size of New Orleans.
That being said, Susan Spicer's Bayona Restaurant is at 430 Dauphine Street, only three blocks into the Quarter from the Ritz. I've eaten there many times and never had a bad meal. If I had the choice, I would go there. Galatoire's and Arnaud's are also within a block of Bayona on Bourbon, and offer a more Old-line New Orleans experience. You can't go wrong with any of those three.

IMO, The Ritz's location is ok and you should be fine walking the FQ. I would caution you not to venture over to Rampart St.

      2. Bayona ( would be my choice as well. Very walkable from the Ritz, relaxing/intimate atmosphere, knowledgeable waitstaff, & most of all delicious food. They also do lunch on Saturdays. Enjoy!

        1. Saturday night we dined at The Pelican Club and took advantage of the coolinary menu. We were very happy with the food and the service.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I was able to give a somewhat "informed" opinion!

          2. Agree with all of the dining and lunch suggestions and the safety first principle. Walk to and from lunch and you can walk to dinner , but take a cab home afterwards. Better safe than sorry...especially after imbibing and not being too familiar with the locale.
