Drive-through (or drive-in) chow recs?

Hounds, I know you can help with this dilemma. My husband and I occasionally find ourselves driving around while our six month old naps in the car (like once a month only--I know it's not environmentally friendly!). He will wake up if we take him out of the car seat so we are pretty much bound to our car for a while when this happens.

If we had access to good drive-through/drive-in chow, these little adventures would be a lot more fun and date-like. Unfortunately the only drive-through food I know of near us is Burger King and Wendy's, which aren't going to cut it.

So please--does anyone have any leads on driveable food? We're in West Cambridge and we'd be willing to drive a ways to get somewhere, since obviously that's the point--to drive.

Thanks in advance for your wise counsel.

  1. Kelly's in Medford (by Wellington Station) for some fried clams and other fried seafood goodies!

Second this rec -- you can also get a great roast beef sandwich or a very fine fish sandwich, in addition to their lobster roll.

In the same complex, you can run in and grab a Regina's pizza if you call it in first. Chowing on a well done link sausage pie while the sprout sleeps would be dreamy.

Another vote for Kelly's Roast Beef at Station Landing in Medford. I get their double cheeseburger and an order of cheese fries. I ask for my cheese fries without salt and to make the fries crispy. They come out great every time I have ordered them smothered with melted cheddar cheese and covered with pieces of bacon. Their drive through moves very fast and it won't take long to get your food.

Thanks for reminding me of this--we did actually go to Kelly's once and I completely forgot that it existed. (It's conveniently located near a Babies R Us . . . )

We need to refine our ordering there so these suggestions are great!

I picked up a well done link sausage pizza from Regina's at Station Landing on Sunday. I can honestly say that this pizza was fantastic. It was cooked just the way I like it and had plenty of cheese and slices of sausage. I also noticed that Regina's in Medford now sells slices of pizza. They didn't sell slices the last time I was there. I saw a sign in the window that stated on Friday and Saturday night they are open until midnight. They also have outside patio dining. There was a family with kids enjoying their pizza on the patio on Sunday.

I'm glad you got a fantastic pizza. I like the North End location best, but Station Landing will do in a pinch.

      2. Some restaurants do curb-side ahead and they'll bring it to your car. I know Cheesecake Factory and Not Your Average Joe's do this. There is a Joe's in Watertown which might be a good drive for you.

        1. I'd go to a real drive in altho most aren't super close to Boston.

          Does Henry's still exist?

          1. lester's bbq on rt 3 in Burlington has a pickup window - food is pretty good, too. I recommend the brisket.

Right. I've done the pickup window at Lester's for business lunches. The food is mostly good and A LOT better than most of your typical drive-through chains. This would probably be my #1 choice for drive-through.

            2. Thanks everyone for the replies, these are great!
