Sunday afternoon private party - som/cam?

Hi, all --

I'm trying to plan my daughter's christening party for August and am trying to decide if I want to do it at home or in a restaurant. We'll have 15-20 guests, and the christening is in Union Square. If we opt to do it out, it would be great if it was in Cambridge/Someville. Looking for something not too pricey but still special feeling, someplace with a private area, and someplace that feels appropriate for a christening in the middle of summer (read: not too dark and gloomy). Some options I've thought of but likely won't workl:
Oleana - too pricey
Gargoyle's - too dark
Blue room - maybe, but I'm not sure if they'll do an afternoon seating after their brunch
Upstairs on the Sq - too pricey and parking difficult

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!! Thank you!

Hopefully around 25 pp, not including drinks (which I'm expecting to be minor on a Sunday afternoon, but you never know - after sitting through a christening, folks might be ready for a cocktail!)

    2. The Independent?

      1. Would you be interested in doing Thai food? Ronnarong in Union was recently redone and the interior is pretty--lots of light, great bright colors, fresh herbs growing. There isn't a private room, but my guess is that they are not so busy that they would turn down hosting a private party. They have delicious cocktails and non-alc infused syrup drinks.

East Coast Grill & Ole both have private areas with different kinds of charm.

        1. Thanks for all of the ideas! We ultimately decided to cater this at home (using Jules Catering) ... but lots of good ideas for the future!
