Help for a single mom with 2 gourmet daughters travelling in Napa/Lake Tahoe next week looking for resto suggestions...

I will be travelling to Napa (Calistoga) and then Lake Tahoe (Kings Beach area) next week and am looking for some great places to eat with my two daughters. We are all foodies, but my daughters are 13 and 10 so uber-fancy, great wine list places will be lost on them. Plus, we have somewhat of a budget to respect, so nothing too expensive - unless it can't be missed and we can get the cheaper meal at lunch. It is our first vist to these areas (but have been to the Bay area many times) so we are open to ideas on what to do as well...all suggestions welcome!

    Just a quick note that Tahoe is covered on our California board -- it would be best to start a thread on that board for the Lake Tahoe portion of this question, as those replies are off-topic for this board, and you're more likely to get responses from locals on California, since they wouldn't be looking here.

      As for Tahoe area I'd post your question on the California board. You'll be passing through a lot of communities with places that fit your needs. If you drive through Tahoe City on your way to Kings Beach I recommend the Bridge Tender. Great burgers and the patio is wonderful.

        Having just gotten back from Tahoe, I can say there's very little there to appeal to a budding or full-fledged foodie. Sprouts, near the Heavenly resort area, has nice fresh sandwiches, salads and smoothies.

          You're talking about the South Shore. OP will be staying on the North Shore which has almost nothing in common with the south. Too bad you missed it. MANY nice places to eat.

          I would checkout the Oxbox Public Market that's relatively new. I saw a spot on TV about that Pica Pica Maize Kitchen that made it look super interesting.

            Pica Pica is a fave- love their yucca fries! Servings are good sized, their Pica-2 combo is a great option.

            How about Pizzeria Tra Vigne or Taylor's Refresher in St. Helena- both are good lunch stops with your girls. You might also check out Woodhouse Chocolates while you're there- they'll love the jewel-box of a store with the Tiffany-blue boxes!

              If you do search for Tahoe or Truckee, you'll find more. After looking these over, let me/us know if you have any questions. There's also a really nice Safeway in Kings Beach that also has a Starbucks. Weather is great; you'll have tons of fun.

                If you going past City of Napa around lunch time a visit to Ubuntu would be a real treat for the ladies. Inventive use of seasonal produce in nice room in a highly rated restaurant that won't break your budget. I believe Kings Beach is better found on the California board.
