El Gordo Loco - MUNICH

Has anybody tried this place? Living in Europe for the last year has left me jonesing for some serious Mexican food. I'm going to be back in Munich in a couple of weeks and I've heard this place is pretty awesome.

Opinions?

So my wife and I tried El Gordo Loco on the weekend and were impressed. Granted, the food is not as good as what you'll find in the North America, but it's by far the best we've had in Europe by a country mile. My wife had the chicken tacos, which were excellent, and I had great fajitas. Overall, the food was fresh and made in-house, the service was good and the bill was only about 28 euros which included a couple of beers. We will definitely go back the next time I'm in Munich.

The best Mexican food I've had in Munich has been at El Patio and Tacos y Tequila. They are across the street from each other on Herzogstrasse, near the Hohenzollernplatz U-Bahn station.

Or, the better option is to shop here and DIY:

      Mercado de México
      Schulstrasse 38, Munich Neuhausen

They have good corn & flour tortillas, frozen tamales, queso fresco, chorizo etc. The fresh ingredients you can get in Karstadt/Kaufhof basement nearby.

As far as I am aware, there is no even half-way decent Mexican food in Munich (not surprisingly). This place included.

Yes. It's the same pseudo-pan-latino stuff you get everywhere in Germany.

Never been there and never heard anything about it that drew my attention. Famous are two places next to it: Nage und Sauge and Mariannenhof which just changed ownership and seems to have much improved.
If I go Mexican, I usually go to Juleps http://www.joepenas.com/ (not JoePenas!). In addition there are a lot of alternatives right next door and across the street.

Have been there - it is a small nonspectacular place. Maybe the food is excellent - did neither eat or drink- but nothing that would attract me to go. I definitely would prefer Juleps and around.
