Post baptism dinner for eight in Bergen County

My nephew is getting baptized in late August, and my sister and brother-in-law are looking for recommendations for a small Sunday dinner in Bergen County. They live in River Edge - a 20 min drive would be more then acceptable. They are looking for an intimate venue to celebrate this special occasion.

Classic, well prepared/presented quality food is key. We'll forgo any Italian options as the two families are Italian and can COOK. ;-)

Thanks to all for your suggestions.

  1. i don't know about the atmosphere, but Oceanos in Fairlawn has been getting a lot of love here on CH. there's also Cafe Matisse in Rutherford if you're okay with a BYO place.

      I have said it before... I love Oceanos. It has fabulous fresh fish.
      I also recently tried Nisi Estiatorio on Grand Ave in Englewood. It is a great new greek restaurant. www.nisirestaurant.com

        i had a *fabulous* dinner at Nisi recently. i wanted to suggest it for the OP because the food is so good, but the atmosphere is far from "intimate."

    2. Two suggestions that quickly come to mind:

      Axia Taverna in Tenafly, which serves contemporary Greek food, has a nice private loft that overlooks the dining room. (www.axiataverna.com

      )

      Harvest Bistro in Closter has some wonderful French bistro dishes and a lovely setting, both inside and out (www.harvestbistro.com). Until mid-afternoon, it has a great brunch menu, and then it begins serving dinner at 5 p.m.

        I have been to both of these and enjoyed them quite a bit. I think they would work well also.

          another thumbs-up for Axia. food and service are excellent, and the space is beautiful.

          1. re: goodhealthgourmet

            The food is very good at both Nisi and Axia. Axia is a more "intimate venue" but I find the service to be better at Nisi.
