I concur with In Good Company, Primo is always excellent but higher priced than most in the area. Cafe Miranda is consistent, but with over 150 menu items every night it can be a little overwhelming. Lilly Bistro has had good local reviews. I went right after they opened and will give them the benefit of the doubt, they have now had a year an I need to go back. Venture a little further north to Camden and check out Brevetto Kitchen and Wine bar. Chef/owner is a friend and he does a good job. Excellent Italian wine selection. Reservations are needed most places during the summer but we have good luck showing up ~ 8PM. For some reason Mainers are early eaters. There is also Billy's Tavern in Thomaston (just south of Rockland) great pub food, killer atmosphere and they pour a great Guinness! have fun!

Yep. Their bangers and mash are pretty tasty.

Also, check out relative newcomer Paulino's Way in Camden on the harbor. Great local/organic items, mostly pizza, pasta, and fantastic gelato. They source all they can locally, and we've really enjoyed them.

The first time we went to Paolina's Way , they had just been open for a week and Stefano (the guy from Italy) was cooking. It was terrific; tasted like the pizza we ate in Italy. Marvelously thin crust, great toppings, simply done. Nice little salad with blueberries, local greens. And the gelato was some of the best we've had around here. Well, we went again last week and it was kind of a downer: salad still good, wine list ok, too, but the pizza was so-so, kind of chewy, but not in a good way, and not as much flavor, and the gelato was very grainy. Their prices are high, too, which we don't mind if it's as good as it was last year. But now, we won't be back until we hear it's improved.

Ooh- thanks for the tip, Shooley. Our first experience was just as you described- I'd hate to go back and be disappointed (especially since they are a little pricey- which, as you said, I don't mind, when I get quality like the original try!).
