Best organic meats?

I just saw the post about buying Ontario foods. I usually buy my meats at Fresh from the Farm. Never had a problem with them but it seems some people have given up this store. Any better alternatives out there? I found Rowe Farms adn Blackstone quite pricey.

Well, both Healthy Butcher and Cumbrae's will be even more expensive than those two. For two organic chicken breasts, you're looking at close to $20 at HB.

Cumbrae's has more marbling in their prime beef cuts than Healthy Butcher, while Healthy Butcher gets in some incredible pork (tamworth, iron age, etc...).

For a cheaper alternative, I suggest you look into Vince Gasparro's. They have chicken from mennonite farmers.

Is Cumbrae's organic? I thought it was mostly "naturally raised"...which is fine, but not certified organic or anythign like that.

$20 for two chicken breasts, eh? I believe it, which makes buying the whole bird the most sensible thing to do if you're eating organic birds.

yes, cumbrae's is naturally raised, not organic.

it actually cost roughly the same to buy a whole chicken at HB as 2 chicken breasts. They'll break it down for you for free too. Obviously it's still really expensive when you're comparing it to other butchers in the city.

spring creek farms on roncesvalles has very good prices for organic meats.

      Cumbrae's. Period.

I don't even think Rowe is organic, is it? It falls under the "naturally raised" grey area description.

YOu'll hear from most that Healthy Butcher is where it's at. I can't speak from experience.

Farmer's markets tend to have some good options. at Withrow this weekend, one guy was selling whole organic chickens for $4.99/lb. Sounds pretty good, I think.
