spanish olives in TO?
so a coworker just came back from barcelona and brought back the most extraordinary olives I have ever tasted...and I'm not even a big fan of olives.
They were fresh (not preserved), green, pitted, not bitter at all, and tasted like they were marinated in chicken stock...that's the best way i can describe the taste.
where can i get these bad boys in the city? or this side of the pond for that matter?
I've had good luck with fresh (not heavily brined) olives at La Fromagerie, 868 College st.
416.516.4278. The olive you describe sounds remarkably similar to the one I experienced in Spain a couple of years back - while not an olive lover, I fell instantly in love with these "quick brined" olives that every restaurant seemed to serve there. These specific ones were manzanillas and I was thrilled to find them at la Fromagerie. Also available: arbequinas (beautful tiny black ones...yum!) and many, many other.
This may sound odd, but have a look on www.upayanaturals.com. It's a health-food oriented site that carries a wide variety of raw, vegan items. There are some different olives available. All are organic, raw and either cured, brined or sun-dried. The quality is fantastic, but the prices are high. The business is located in Toronto, but it is not a store. Items can be ordered for pick-up or delivery. Have a look.
Try Pasquale Bros in Etobicoke. You can check their website... www.pasqualebros.com as they list all the products they carry. They have a rather extensive list of olives. If you don't see the ones that you are looking for, give them a call anyway...they are very helpful.
