After years of driving past the sign for this small, off-Route 1, place (at about the Warren / Waldoboro town line), a friend took me to dinner here Friday evening. This is clearly a labor of love for owners Natalie and Doug (she's the server, he's the chef), and the results show it. We started sharing the Chinese pan-seared dumpling appetizer: nicely prepared, excellent tangy sauce. On my friend's recommendation, I had one of the house specials, a dish I'd never eaten: Osso buco...made with pork instead of veal! This was fall-off-the-bone tender, full-flavored, and delicious, with a sauce I believe was sweetened with cherry: not too sweet, however. My friend had a delicious chicken marsala. Doug has a wonderful hand with roasted veggies (the standard accompaniement): a great melange of fresh and local items. I understand that when the sweet corn comes in next month, guests are invited to pick some to take home. You can learn more at http://www.silverlanebistro.com/. They also have brick-oven pizza, which I understand is very good. The small but carefully selected wine list is very fairly priced. We enjoyed a "super Chilean" cabernet blend for $31 that was worth far more, and I loved the home-made raspberry sorbet to close the meal.
The owners are considering relocation to California, and since I regularly see Chow requests for good places to eat in the mid-coast, I encourage you to stop by and enjoy before it's too late!

Thanks for the tip, mainemal. I've seen the sign and wondered. Could you tell us a price range for entrees? That's always my big fear with new places- I don't mind a splurge, but with my husband in school full-time, I like to plan for them!

With wine, about $50/person: not cheap, but definitely worth it. In our case last Friday, that was 1 ap, 1 salad, 2 entries (range there is about $17-$25), 1 dessert, 1 wine. Must say that portions are LARGE, so plan on making another meal out of whatever you eat--for instance, I finished off pork osso buco and veggies for lunch today! And if you look at the wine list, you'll note a large number of less expensive offerings.

Thanks! As I said, I don't mind swinging the extra for a great meal- just as long as I expect it! I'll try to get there this summer.
