this place is just wonderful!

Church's Kitchen (no connection to Church's Chicken)
2117 Springfield Avenue
Vauxhall, NJ 07088
908-810-1686

Mon - Sat, 11 - 9

Even though it is just a little take out place, it has been written up in the Star-Ledger and there was even a blurb about it in the NY Times!

We had some soul food as well as the Cheese Steak. Cheese Steak had to be the single best one I have ever had. And that (and everything else) really felt like home cooking.

BBQ chicken was perfectly cooked, sauce was amazing. Probably the single best sweet potato pie I have ever had.

Mac and Cheese was great, corn bread was very nice. Just every single thing was amazing.

Felt like you were eating from someone's grandma's kitchen.

    one more thing...

I've heard the place is jam packed during peak hours. We went very early and it worked out fine. Food is really home cooked...no microwaves, so it does take a bit longer than other places...but well worthwhile!!!

Their fried chicken is amazing, but I always call ahead and add five minutes to the delivery time. And they are very nice people.

Mrs. Church is undoubtedly one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. She makes you feel like a long-lost friend, and you could easily lose an hour just chatting with her.

And the food...oh my. It goes without saying that their fried chicken is flat out incredible. I don't know how they do it, and she won't give me her recipe!

(As to it being jam-packed - I've never experienced that. They can be busy, yes, but they're usually very good at estimating a pickup time. Always order at least 45-minutes before you want to eat and you'll be fine.)
