Produce Markets?

As a relatively new transplant to the DC area from Boston one thing that I love about DC are the great farmers markets. However, my wallet is not loving the farmers markets as it is quite easy to spend a lot of money in a very short amount of time. One of my favorite places in the Boston Area is Russo's, a very large produce market with excellant quality and prices cheaper than even the grocery store. Does a place like this exist in the DC area? Bonus points if it is in NW DC or in the Silver Springish area. That would make me very happy. Thanks.

    H-Mart in Wheaton/Glenmont; Snider's in Montgomery Hills.

Magruder's stores tend to have very good prices. Their quality varies, so use a critical eye when buying.

What area do you live and what farmers markets to you go to? Price points vary from market to market-outside of DC being generally less expensive.

Not sure about a produce store/market, but I recommend trying different farmer's markets. For example, I used to go to the DC Farmer's market on Sundays, but it's really really expensive. I tried the saturday market at 14th and U and I've found it's a lot less crowded and more reasonably priced.

H-Marts- big Korean supermarkets with a vast array of produce- are scattered throughout the area. I haven't been to the one in Silver Spring but I'm sure its about as good as the others.

That's probably your best bet for cheap, good produce. Also, if you go to farmers markets just as they are closing you can get some pretty sweet deals.

Actually, IMHO, the Lotte in Silver Spring (mailing address; actually closer to Aspen Hill) is a better bet than the local H-Mart.

There's also an independent Korean grocery store called Korean Korner in Silver Spring.

Around here it's the ethnic markets, like Fresh World. Not sure what exists your way but I know they exist up there - especially somewhere around Wheaton.
