Hubby is going this week on a business trip to San Jose. Was told that the closest community that had kosher food was Palo Alto. Is that the case, and any recommendations for that neighborhood and any others (doesn't have to be fancy)? What is the distance between the two areas?

20 minutes. But Mountain View is closer, and that has The Kitchen Table.

I was in Palo Alto begining of June and ate at The Kitchen Table and the food and service were top notch - the house cured pastrami and lamb bacon are excellent - definitely on my Top Ten list of kosher restaurants in the US that I have been to - http://www.thekitchentablerestaurant....

My friend is the chef at The Kitchen Table and where as i have yet to have a chance to get out there and try it myself i happen to know he can create some beautiful food. I did mention to him that you put his restaurant on your top ten and for that he is thankful i also think you are one of the most prolific posters on this and some of the other kosher boards across the net, who happens to have great insight on food in general not just kosher. It also seems that you travel a whole lot so what perhaps is your entire top ten list of kosher restaurants, for sure Terra Sur, mosaica in jersey and the Kitchen table so what perhaps are the other seven?

Thanks for your kiind words - If I find something good I like to spread the word and I am cursed when I travel I like to eat well and it shows and particularly if there is a kosher establishment i like to support the local community with my expense report - and find some interesting things like a good kosher deli in Des Moines -

My top ten list is a fleichig list as I will eat vegetarian in non-kosher restaurants so I enjoy the ability to eat meat out. I have not eaten at Terra Sur so it is not on the list but looking at the menu and other's comments I am sure once I get there it will be - so my list in no particular order as I would eat at any of thses at the drop of the hat -

The Prime Grill (NYC) - they do steaks right
Le Marais (NYC) - I always pick up some beef jerky form their butcher shop
Pats (LA) - Another fantastic Steak place
Jeff's Gourmet Sausage (LA) - sometimes good food does come from a counter
Lin's Kosher Chinese (NJ) - excellent chinese food
Taam China (Newton, MA) - likewise excellent chinese food
Tein Li Chow (Chicago) - as you can see a theme is devekoping
Taboun Grill (Skokie) - excellent Israeli Grill - IMHO best in restaurant in Chicago
The Kitchen Table (Mtn View, CA)
          Mosaica (NJ)

There are others I would throw up but I will limit myself to the ten -
