I heard that Tango Grill in White Plains filed for bankruptcy and is going to close. Anyone else here this?

  1. I found nothing, yet perhaps, in LoHud, Westcherster or on a rather D&D web search.
And their web site is up and shows nothing out of norm:
    Tango Grill in White Plains:

Just who/what was your source on this bit of news?

Two woman from my hair salon both who frequent the restaurant. Said they read it in the paper. My fault for not asking which one. The part of of Tango Grill that was two doors down from the corner restaurant has now been turned into a Asain Fusion called Full Moon. It could very well be possible. I know the chef is now working at the new tapas restaurant Milango in White Plains.

The local food blogger at LoHud, Liz, is on holiday this past week. So perhaps we may see something about this Monday?
Looking at her blog, she follows CH and references it within blog report.

And I guess we all should an keep on eye on their web site, front door and local news papers for updates/confermations. One way or another.

Edit: Have to wonder if it is in this Sunday's NY Times Metro section? Have not yet read mine and it is not yet on-line.

That would be helpful. I'll see if I can find out anything more concrete. Liz usually gets the scoop. If it is true, it is sad. It has been a favorite go to restaurant for special occasions for me for a number of years.

          1. re: Jon1856

Several other reviews in NY Times but nothing that I saw about this.

Now have to wonder if conversation was about the second dinning room alone...

            1. re: Jon1856

I checked the westchester journal and could not find anything. Hopefully when Liz returns from vacation she can get an answer. If a customer asks at the restaurant, they are not going to say they are having issues.

From a google search for "tango grill bankruptcy":

Argentinean and Italian hotspot Tango Grill on East Post Road in downtown White Plains filed for bankruptcy protection on July 2, which permits reorganization. Attorney Jeffrey Reich of Reich Reich & Reich P.C. in White Plains confirmed Hector Avila is still chef and owner of the operation, but had no further comment. Tango Grill opened in October 2004 and garnered immediate culinary praise. It had one to 49 estimated creditors, $500,001 to $1 million in estimated assets and $1 million to $10 million in estimated liabilities at the time of filing.

Thanks for your time, effort, and report. I had just started a "better" search than before when you posted this. Which I had not picked up in my oringinal down and dirty search.

We will now have to see what happens next.

                  1. re: Jon1856

Thanks Rbalin for the information. I also tried a search earlier but came up empty. I'm hoping for the best and glad that my information was correct. I hate to post something and get everyone talking and find out it is not true.

                2. re: kaaaassss

Per todays posting, Liz read CH and this very thread.

                  1. re: Jon1856

Jon1856 - then i'm sure we will find out the scoop soon.

                    1. re: kaaaassss

I do find in interesting that they filed on July 2nd and NO one in any of the local media picked up on it and reported it.
Many other examples of business in this economy have.

                      1. re: Jon1856

Seems as if JN did run a story about this a few days after I posted above.
Does have some more details on situation: Both about restaurant and White Plains.
Tango Grill in White Plains seeks bankruptcy protection

        2. While driving by last this after noon, saw that it was rather dark inside, and no one seemed to be there.
And than I saw some notices up in windows.

So, on way back, I stopped and took a look.

Tango Grill is closed until the 18th(?) for renovations. And this seems to be more than just a touch up for when I took a look in to back/kitchen door I saw no kitchen equipment inside. Kitchen is torn up and gone.
So it seems that what owner said in article is being done.
So now only time will tell.

Wow! They were open yesterday because I saw the valet parking sign outside....I guess another good place bites the dust.

              Hold on kaaaassss:
Please, please, please read, in full, both of my postings from tonight.
Notices DID have today as closing date with re-opening on18th. However one week is real short time to do the kind of work I saw being done. Can it be done? Yes. But that is if everything works out 100%
And that that does cost money. And given what the LoHud story had in it, I do wonder where it came from. Perhaps the owner?

              1. re: Jon1856

Jon1856. I did read your postings. Tango Grill was one of my favorite restaurants in Westchester and I frequented it often and recommended it to many people over the years. I can walk to it from my house. In my opinion it had it all...I hope that they can recover and reopen and reclaim there place as a top spot....

                1. re: kaaaassss

OK-I was not all to sure just what your 1st posting was leading too. Clear now.

                  1. re: Jon1856

ok. sometimes things get lost in translation on these boards....

          2. Lastest update: Drove by Tango Grill White Plains this morning and saw that it had new signage:
Did not have the time to stop and look at smaller document on door but MVHO/guess is that the USMS/IRS had something to do with it.
