What's good at Woodbine and Danforth?

We're moving there from the Beach in September. Any recs on the Ethiopian, Italian, and small grubby cafes in the area? I know we're only a twenty-minute walk from Greektown, but I was wondering about local hidden gems.

      Yup, Relish is a more pricey restaurant with tapas style dishes. I have eaten there a couple of times and found some things really good and others so-so.

      Also, Quattro Regazze for homey Italian pizza, pasta, and veal sandwiches.

      Closest good butcher is Royal Beef on Danforth, just west of Woobine. Some great meat at reasonable prices, plus fresh cannoli and ricotta on Saturday mornings. Excellent tzatziki -- not sure who supplies it, but I love it.

      Closest great bakery is Zane on Queen, north side, just west of Woodbine. Just a few doors down is a good little food shop, Meat on the Beach.

        Yup. My waistline knows ALL ABOUT Zane. :) And I try not to go into Meat on the Beach because I hemorrhage money!

          Dukem, near Donlands on Danforth, for good Ethiopian. Also recommend Djerba la Douce, Jean's Vegetarian, Melanie's, and Bistro Camino. All very different; all worth supporting.

              Melanie's Bistro offers tremendous value for the bistro menu.
              The chef owner used to work in Royal York Hotel.
              There's a Tue special: 2 course dinner for $20.

                  We were looking at the Djerba La Douce menu. Glad to hear it's good. We've been to El Sol, which is good as long as you have three hours free. I've read the Camino reviews and look forward to trying it.

                  Any good takeout and child-friendly places? We've got a toddler.

                  Bistro Camino is nearby. Really good value, good comfort food.
