My best friend is coming into town this weekend (in late Sat. night) and has requested that we go eat somewhere that has fabulous jerk chicken....something she has had a taste for for years since you can't exactly get it in the 4 Corners.
Does anyone know of a good, not too expensive (max $30 per person) place that serves really good jerk chicken? I live in Woodridge and would prefer somewhere in the 'burbs...but going into the city will be fine as long as it's easy to get to since I, too, have not been to the city all that much since moving here.
Thanks in advance.
if you are willing to travel to the south side, "calypso cafe" near hyde park / woodlawn area serves good jerk chicken. while you're there, also try the plantain nachos - they are delicious. it's a casual sit-down restaurant and is within your budget. try calling ahead to see if they take reservations. we used to just walk in and wait for about 20-30 min.

I found Calypso quite disappointing; the food was just ordinary. For a more authentic jerk chicken and a pan-Caribbean menu, you might try Jamaica Jerk at 1631 West Howard right on the Chicago-Evanston border. The restaurant is small and charming. BYOB.
the best jerk chicken i have had is off a roach coach that comes by the Loop at lunch sometimes during the work week. then again i admit i am not an expert on jerk chicken. i also like their oxtail, goat curry, and empanadas.
i would second the thumbs down on calypso. was never impressed by it when i was at the Booth School.
i admit this is not very helpful.
UNCLE JOE'S JERK, also in Hyde Park, is cheaper and better that Calypso but take out only. You can order ahead, grab your takeout and head 1/2 mile south and 1/4 mile East to Promontory Point and have a beautiful picnic. A whole Jerk chicken and 2 sides is less than $20, and though the bread looks like Wonder bread, it is actually a really great home baked white bread.
