Good cheese on Peninsula?

I'm looking for a place with a good selection of cheeses (a la Cheese Board, though I know there's no replacement) on the Peninsula.

Ideas?

I'm looking for cheeses from Switzerland. Any favorites out there?

  1. Milk Pail in Mountain View

    1. It's been a few years since I was there, but Draeger's (San Mateo and Los Altos) used to have a very good cheese selection.

(I just looked at their website ... guess they're also in Menlo Park and Blackhawk now. Oops. That's how long it's been! I'm stuck in Texas. Don't blame me!)
      :)

      1. You might look at Piazza's in either San Mateo or Palo Alto. I usually shop in Palo Alto and think the cheese selection is equal to Milk Pail.

Please post any new places you may discover.

        1. Oakville Grocery in the Stanford Shopping Ctr used to have a great selection as well. I like Draeger's MP store better for the cheese but the SM store has better Charcuterie.

Unfortunately, Oakville Grocery is no longer in the Stanford Shopping Center. They closed up last year, I think it was. Sigona's in Redwood City has a pretty good selection, as does Whole Foods (I'm most familiar with the San Mateo and Redwood City locations).

          2. The only decent specialty cheese shop I've seen that even sniffs at the quality of the CB is Los Gatos Gourmet. It's really south bay, not peninsula though. They specialize in Itlaian cheeses and have great variety plus knowledgeable staff. Sigonas in RWC had a good selection too for a market, but no cheese monger on the job.
