Bulk lavender. Where can I find it?

  • 9

I'm looking for bulk lavender, like a gallon sized kitchen bag-ish. Does anyone know a place that sells it, maybe a spice or herb store with bulk bins? Years ago there used to be a place like this in the Farmer's Market that then moved further up Fairfax, but they're long gone.

Bonus points for anything anywhere near mid-city! Thanks.

  1. Is the Santa Barbara Lavender Co. still at the H'wd Farmers' Market? They used to be at Studio City too. Also go to any Mexican market, look on the spice packet racks, and then call the company that makes the lavender (in Spanish, "alucema").

    1. You can still get lavender at the farmers market. Try SM or Hollywood.

      1. I used to buy it at Surfas in Culver City. It was just the flowers, and was cooking grade.

Was at Surfas about a month ago - they did have it in approx. gallon-sized bags.

        2. If you don't mind the drive, there's a lavender farm just south of Santa Inez (15 minutes north of SB). Literally they sell by the pound. My wife makes me stop whenever we're up that way. I can dig up the info if you're interested.

I had no idea there was a lavender farm up there. I'll have to stop by the next time I go wine tasting in SB. Thanks for the tip.

I buy it regularly at Surfas. It's about $15.00 for a gallon size bag.
You should call ahead to make sure they have it in stock.

It's always good to call ahead, but my guess is that they have a huge stash - those lemon lavender bars in the cafe are a regular item. :)

Actually there have been quite a few times over the years when I needed it and they were out of stock.
