Roasted Pig Heads?
Does anyone know of places that sell Chinese roasted pig heads after it was cut off from the whole pig? I usually buy mine in LA Chinatown at either Lucky Deli or across the street which was the old Canton Deli on Broadway. I know Sam Woo has it in Cerritos, Monterey Park, and other locations but I'm looking for somewhere closer to the south bay. Used to get it for $3 apiece but now most places have raised them to $5. The old United Poultry on Broadway used to have huge pig heads but most places now sell only the smaller suckling type hogs. Hog head "jook "makes excellent comfort food!

You might check out the Yum Cha Cafe's around town.

Depends on where you get it. Normally, it comes off the whole roasted pig which is sold for it's prime parts by the pound. The head, feet, and tail are sold separately as residuals. In the past, United Poultry which is now closed, used to sell them for $2 - $3 depending on who was at the counter. It was first come first serve. Lucky Deli used to sell them for $3 but raised them to $5 (if they have any available). Across the street, the deli sells them for two - three bucks without the cheeks since that is where most of the meat is. On Hill Street, there is a small deli that sold them for a buck apiece without the cheeks but those were real small suckling pigs with hardly anything on them. I've also seen them at Sam Woo for $5 and at Hong Kong Deli in Carson sold by the pound.

What about uncooked, where do I get that? All this talk has me wanting to make some headcheese.

I know they have them at Valu Plus #11 (Hawthorne and Marine) cut into halves/quarters now because I was just there... but I don't think they always have them. I also passed on the lamb tongues.
I've seen whole heads (cows too) on display at Vallarta around Christmas time. I'd bet any similar place could get them for you pretty easily even if they didn't have them on hand.

I think I may have seen them at Grand Central Market in LA a while back. Haven't been there in ages.
