[LONDON] Hakkasan or Yauatcha?

I have only room for 1 chinese meal. I'm torn between Hakkasan and Yauatcha.
What'll be your pick?

  1. It depends what sort of chinese food you like - Hakkasan has tremendous atmosphere and the food can be hit or miss and it is not cheap. I was there on Tuesday and it was good, I was there the month before and it wasn't! Likewise with Yauatcha - both Hakkasan and Yauatcha are destination restaurants so although the atmosphere and cocktails are excellent, the food isn't as good as it could be and the prices can be eyewateringly high. If you want proper Chinese food I would head for Chinese Experience in Shaftesbury Avenue - much more authentic although the atmosphere is not as good the food is pretty good and the prices are less jaw dropping.

    1. I always thought of Hakkasan as best for dinner and Yauacha better for dim sum (never to be eaten in the evening). Both are glamerous places and are lively. They are expensive, but it is the price you pay for better Chinese food in London, unless you want regional food, and here you are best served by the inner suburbs.

      1. Haven't had dinner at either, but the dim sum lunches I had at both were overpriced compared to meals I had at places of the same quality or better.

BTW, I think Chinese Experience on Shaftesbury is closed.
