Strawberry rhubarb tart from Flaky Tart

"Wow. That was good. Really good. I wasn't expecting it to be that good. Wow."

That was my husband's reaction as he finished his strawberry rhubarb tart from Flaky Tart. We hadn't visited in a while and I stopped by yesterday to pick up a few goodies. He said it was the perfect combination of great crust, great filling (just a little sweet, a little more tart) and yummy crumble. It was declared better than the amazing tarts I bought at Whitty Farms in St. Catharines last month.

I'm going to go eat my English toffee brownie now...

  1. Have to try this place out soon- hopefully tomorrow.

Another place that has a surprisingly good strawberry rhubarb tart is the cafe in the basement of the AGO, underneath Frank. AGO members get 10 percent off their food purchases.

... I keep saying that I'll go soon... and I really want to go soon!!!

    2. Better than Whitty's? And closer than St Catharines? Looks like I need to make a stop in soon! Thanks for the tip.

These have a thicker crust than the Whitty Farms' tarts, but since I love the crust, it's a good thing.

      2. Madeline Sperry is a genius. She recently had a workshop for making pie crusts. I'm still cursing myself because I couldn't make it there.

        1. i think i may have said the exact same thing when i tried the same tart last year! mmmm, i find their butter tarts a tad too sweet, and their cookies too, but that rhubarb pie is perfect!

If you haven't tried the shortbread with dried cranberries, you should give them a go. Buttery, not too sweet, and the chopped cranberries give a really nice hit of chewiness.

          2. You should also try their ginger snaps, quite amazing.

Oh, I have! And they are amazing. They are the most "gingery" snap I've had -- almost on the verge of too much ginger for me. I find I can only eat 1 or 2 at a time, which is probably a good thing. Nice with a cup of tea.

            2. The chocolate pecan pie is really good. I keep looking for a good strawberry rhubarb pie without trans fats. Pretty much every place I've been to uses some in their fruit pies but the chocolate pecan is usually safe.
