Get on the phone girl. Any preference for food or price?
Off the top of my head:
Westside Tavern, Westwood Pavilion
Napa Valley Grille, Westwood
Shamshiri Grill, Westwood
Buffalo Club, Santa Monica
Fig, Santa Monica
Cafe del Rey, Marina del Rey
I'm sure there are decent Mexican & Italian for families, they're not coming to my mind right now.

if you end up at shamshiri grill, i'd see if they can set your party up on the patio.

how small? how well-behaved? and agree... cuisine/price?
i Cugini
Fritto Misto
Il Moro
Literati
Palmeri or Pecorino might be good depending upon the kids
Peppone - might be good for kids because of the booths
Cafe Montana or 17th St. Cafe

second the i cugini reccomendation.

Love I Cugini personally, but can't recall what they would have for kids....maybe just plain spaghetti & sauce? Calamari?

c&o is on my regular rotation, but truly, it is not what the op specified: a GOOD restaurant. it works for me because the huge carbo loading dishes are a favorite of my teenage daughter and her boyfriend. i would not categorize the place as a good restaurant.

Right, right, not GOOD as I looked at the title of post again. But was also thinking of the young kids.

Chez Mimi is very nice. They have a lovely patio, very good food, excellent service...and I often see families there.

We like Brunello's in Culver City and have taken our son there (now 16 months old) many times.

I went with a party of about that size and two kids. 8 and 12, to Annisette and we had a wonderful time. They put us upstairs right outside the pastry kitchen which the kids enjoyed. My kids are well behaved but picky eaters and it worked out wonderfully.
