Transplanted NY'er returning for 1 night - wants to be downtown - good food, somewhat scene-y if possible.

Suggestions? Along the lines of John Dory, Scarpetta, La Esquina, etc. Thanks!

Thats a funny choice - this friend and i used to go there all the time when it was on 14th st. So I would rather something that's a little "newer". Chelsea is fine location. I have a res. at a few places so far - just figuring out my options. Thanks!

Both Rocking Horse and Mark't are not exactly scene-y - just neighborhood type spots.

If you are considering John Dory and Scarpetta I'd say do one or both of those. Both are incredible for their specific cuisines.

Also Freeman's if you don't mind not having a reservation (unless your party is 6 or more people)

Locanda Verde- Andrew Carmellini- ex La Voce, Cafe Boulud chefs'' new place on Greenwich and Franklin. Great food, definitely a scene, and not too pricey.
