We're staying in Hubbards for a week at the end of July and we are arriving after the farmer's market on the Saturday. We hope to do some exploring in and around Chester, and Hubbards, but we don't want to venture too far since we have young kids. I would prefer not to have to cook while we are there, but it seems like there isn't much to eat. Can someone point us in the right direction?

I know this is a late reply, but for future reference, Trellis Cafe is right on the main drag, and I've heard is very good. We drove by the other day and it was packed.
We've eaten at Dauphine Inn - which is on the water. The food was mediocre at best, as was the service.
There is also The Shore Club, which has Lobster Dinner, I've never eaten there, but it has been open for 60 years or so, so they must be doing something right.

Sorry, I missed this as well. There's not much at all in the Hubbards area. The Trellis is pretty much it. Though greatly beloved by locals, the food isn't consistent. Fun atmosphere, lots of local characters. Nearby is a lunch wagon that I can't vouch for. Too bad you're missing the Farmer's Market, because it is really terrific. Better than Halifax, for my money.

In Chester Basin, try the Seaside Shanty. The haddock chowder is fantastic, and everything else I've tried has been solid.

In Chester, the Kiwi is good and kid-friendly, but the desserts are much, much too sweet. But everything else is consistent, and the soups are terrific. They're available frozen, but I'd skip most of the other groceries available. Over-priced. I've only been to Nicki's (across the street) once for a private function, but the food was good. Not great for kids, though. Skip the Foc'sl (sp?).

In Tantallon, the only real choice is the Bike & Bean, and it, too, is kid-friendly. Service can be patchy though always friendly, and the food is always good. Oh, near Tantallon is Shining Waters, which does a good weekend brunch.

Outback is good for breakfast and low $
"Four Way Stop" local resturant in shopping center and liked by locals
Lobster, go to the pound buy lobster by the lb. about $6 cooked or buy their lobster dinner, (not as good deal)
Shore Club is a must, especially the night scene with bands
Campground Gallants, very good fish and chips. enough chips for three.
Trelis is good but $$
Do not miss Saturday market 8-12 a must, cheese, vegies, baked goods, and meats, also empanadas.
Shelias chip wagon, in center of town is good.
