Decent Mexican food between LAX and Culver City, open past 10.

I'm picking up a friend at LAX to take her to the Tattle Tale room and the Scarlet Lady (I know, I know, I'm a classy broad,) on Sepulveda. She really wants to get some good Mexican food first. Her plane is supposed to land around 8, meaning she won't be in my car until 8:30PM or so.

Any suggestions of where to go to eat?

Thanks!!

  1. Would Monte Alban be out of the way?

    1. Since your talking a very short drive between LAX and your ultimate destination (7 miles or so) that makes your request a little more challenging. Is this tonight? I would assume that LAX Tacos in Inglewood would be open, but they are basically a drive-thru with a few tables outside. If it's on a Friday or Saturday night I would say change your food preference a bit and give Derrick's Jamaican a try. Open till 10 PM on Fri & Sat.

I'd like to try that place some other time. Unfortunately, my guest REALLY wants Mexican food as soon as she gets off the plane. I'll keep poking around!

I just had another thought (don't know why I didn't think of it earlier in the process) but if your guest likes well executed Mexican-American food then Paco's on Manchester just barely east of Sepulveda (which means it is directly on your path to Sepulveda & Sawtelle in Culver City) would be a great choice. There are some other benefits to Paco's as well. Delicious house made tortillas and the fact that they do cochinita pibl and some other atypical dishes. And the cherry on top of the Sundae is that they are open until 10 PM Sunday through Thursday and 11 PM on Friday and Saturday (please check those hours directly with the restaurant to make sure that they are still accurate if you decide that this is the right place).

      2. Pachanga on the south side of LAX, (Imperial HWY and Main St. El Segundo), is open until midnight. This place is a takeout only dive, but the carnitas tacos and ceviche are excellent!

Is that so....? I've driven by this place for months now, but read some less-than-stellar reviews on "other" food sites. Maybe I'll give the carnitas and ceviche a try.

As for the original post, assuming you haven't picked up your friend yet you might also try the Paco's near Washington and Centinela. I find this Paco's to be better than the Machester location, but a lot more crowded with limited parking. Might be closer to your "dive bar jaunt" when coming from Scarlett Lady and Tattle Tale (Sawtelle to culver to Centinela). Just a thought.

I agree, I like the Centinela Paco's a lot better too. Or La Cabana which is not in Culver City but about 5 min away on Lincoln and Rose is pretty good. And open until like 3! And if you like margaritas, you have to try them at either of these places!!

        2. In Culver City you can go to Tacos Don Jorge on Venice near La Cienega. Not the classiest of places, but much safer and WORLDS tastier than taking her to LAX Tacos at that time of night.

          1. La Cabana on Lincoln and Rose is really good and they serve food until 3am every day!

I second La Cabana. It's not that far out of the way, just a few blocks north of Venice.

            2. Take a quick detour and you and your friend will be happy. 10 minutes max south of LAX. Take Sepulveda South ( exit just past Terminal 7) R/O Rosecrans and 1 mile or so to Highland. (you just passed it did not see it huh) On the South Side of the Street 5 doors or so East of Highland on Rosecrans.. El Tarasco.. You will love me and you friend will too.. Open past 11 too..

              1. Is Tacomiendo open past 10? that would get my vote...

                1. Check out Kay n Daves on Culver Blvd, downtown Culver City. Not sure of their hours.

                  1. Paco's on Manchester would be a good option - I've been to the Pacos on Centinela much more which is decent. I like it. great margaritas!

La Cabana on venice would be good too.

                    1. if you are going to be checking out some of culver city finer drinking dives..you should hit titos tacos...not the ritz but a culver city landmark and close by to the bars.. have fun

Admittedly I haven't eaten in/at Tito's in years, but I think Cinco de Mayo around the corner (on Sepulveda) is better than Tito's and it's a 24 hour joint. To "ronsilverado" above, Tacomiendo (at least the one on Inglewood Avenue closes at 10pm (unless they have "summer hours," which I am unaware of). Don Jorge (which only serves tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and tortas I think) is open until 1am. Don Jorge is a pretty barren place (only a few tables with chairs and a metal strip that runs along one wall to hold your
food/soft drinks). None of these places are restaurants with servers, etc.
