Brooklyn Pizzeria is a gem

At the end of June I started a thread about Fab's Hot Dogs on Tampa in Reseda and ended with a question about the pizza joint next door, Brooklyn Pizzeria, which bills itself as "the best thin crust pizza in the SFV." My go-to place for thin crust close to home has been D'Amore's, but no more - at least for the pie I got last night. Our usual combination is sausage, mushrooms, garlic, cilantro and onions and, although BP had some interesting special pies, I got the usual for comparison purposes. Except for D'Amore's cornmeal which we love, BP blew D'Amore's away. The crust had a wonderful char and was slightly irregularly shaped, not cookie-cutter round. The sausage was crumbled and deliciously spiced. The garlic was toothsome and had aquired a slight char. I watched the guy chop the cilantro to order. For quality control purposes only (!) I ate a slice on the spot and nearly burned off my taste buds the cheese was so molten. When I got home I wanted to crawl into the trunk of my car because it smelled so great. Mrs. Swift remarked that it reminded her of the pies we have eaten in Italy. I highly recommend this place. AND, the pie was only $18, far less than D'Amore's (or Pizza Cookery) for the same stuff.

I didn't call ahead to order so had to wait. Knowing that idle hands are the devil's playground, I went next door to Fab's and had a steamed dog with mustard relish (Eagle) and that relish is spicy and great. I'm going to try trading Joe the chicken wing sauce recipe from Rubin's Red Hot (RIP) (which I have posted here in years past) for the relish recipe but I know he'll tell me to get stuffed. But BP does have the added plus that you can go next door and get a great dog or two while you're waiting for the pie to come out of the oven.

A place link is available for BP

On Tampa, southwest corner of the intersection of Tampa and Vanowen.

      2. Hi, and thanks for the research... Maybe a 'mash-up' is in order, say, one of Fab's Rippers (minus bun, but with the spicy relish) enfolded length-wise into a slice of Brooklyn Pizza's product? Hmm...

Well, they do sell by the slice, but I'd be inclined to get a whole pie and take the rest home. We're having the remainder of last night's pie as a starter tonight. If you do decide to do a "mash-up" please alert me!

        2. I've been eating there for years now. It is the best; much better than D'Amores. These Brooklyn folks don't seem to have rested on their laurels and just keep making good pizza consistently. The place is a dump but if you ever want the best experience possible, EAT IN!

          1. Hi Tom!

So glad you liked my favorite mom & pop hole in the wall pizza joint!
