NYT: For Las Vegas Chefs, the Odds Grow Longer

Good article (good meaning it is a good read) outlining the challenges that lay ahead for the dining scene in Las Vegas. I will not discuss any restaurants in particular but I will point out one fact that I found surprising...The average cost per person for dinner @ Alex is $320!!!!!

Now I know that there are places more expensive (Guy Savoy, Joel Robuchon, Bar Charlie...and all places are now offering "recession" deals) but I can't recall Alex being mentioned in that price category. There are numerous posts about it being in the mid to lower $100's range.

  1. Well, that figure is both absurd and untrue. It reminds me of the blurb about Mon Ami Gabi that appears in every issue of (I believe) Las Vegas Weekly, something along the lines of "your tab will be at least $200 for two". Well, no it won't.

The stat was not from the NYT though, it was from the restaurant itself.

    2. That $320pp for Alex sounds about right if that includes drinks, tax and tip.
They've always been in that cost category.

Just seems like all the write ups I have read have been in the mid-$100 range...will have to go back and research now.

Late last year when we were considering Alex, the full tasting menu was close to $200 for just the food. It was close to $300 with wine pairing.

We ended up going to L'Atelier instead. Their tasting menu was $148 and we ended up spending almost $600 including wine and tip.
