I think it would be interesting to those who live in or are passing through the Coastal Bend area if we would share any good eats that we have had at area restaurants . My husband and I have lived in Corpus Christi for 12 years we know the pickings are slim, nevertheless I'll begin. Saturday night we ate at Green Papaya. My husband had their flash fried chicken dish that is usually on the menu board. I had the # 18--a beef dish . Both were really delicious. We will definately return.

I just joined Chowhound. My son-in-law always uses it for me on trips. I could not believe the lack of information on Corpus Christi/Port Aransas area. I just wrote a lengthy reply to something else that was 2 years old. Let us try to put Corpus Christi on the Chowhound map. People start writing about your favorites. One of my favorite local, non chain breakfasts is

Town & Country Cafe on Alameda. I always get the Town & Country Breakfast which as everything including coffee for a very reasonable price. It is the traditional American breakfast...2egs, has browns or grits, bacon or, bisquits or, plus sliced tomatoes & real Texas cream gravy.

500 Bistro on July 3rd, we got there at 9:15 PM, kitchen closes at 10:00. The good and the bad...the place was close to empty but we were directed to the bar to wait for a table, we were going to order drinks anyway but this seemed unusual. Wife's martini was perfect, my dry martini, not so much. Finally had to ask to be seated at a table, one of the ones that were empty when we walked in. Waiter/bartender did not know what the house red was so we made a selection from the menu. I ordered the roasted beet salad and my wife had the filet migion, the food was very good, even just before closing. We had to ask for silverware, the hostess never came back with any, we had to scour the tables to find one rolled set, which we shared. We would still give them another shot because of the quality of the food and taking into consideration that it was a Sunday evening close to closing time.
