(Hou) Zio's on Bay Area Blvd

Has anyone tried this restaurant? Thoughts?

  1. The reviews on B4-U-Eat aren't very good, if you go by that site. I'm on the fence about that site since I have heard rave reviews about "where to get crawfish" and when I went it was lousy!

Zio's is an Italian chain where I have had the questionable pleasure of dining twice "for the kids". It is pretty unexciting but the kid's like the crayon on butcher paper table cover... it's not horrible, just plain. I went to the one in San Antonio and the one in Austin (which I think lasted only a year or two).

    2. I've eaten at the Zio's in Springfield Mo a couple of times. Makes Olive Garden look good.

      1. It is decent corporate Italian fare, good but not spectacular. Better than Olive Garden.

Apparently I am in the minority here, because I actually HAVE eaten at the Zios on Bay Area Blvd. More than once. Its has been there several years. To me it was quite acceptable, WAY better than Olive Garden. The closest equivalent would be Macaroni Grill. Sorry, Danhole, but they don't serve crawfish. As swamp says, its decent corporate Italian, no real standout dishes, but I always had good service, and my only serious complain is that it is rather loud at peak times. I recall meeting my cousin there for lunch a few years ago and practically having to shout at each other to be heard. As Rene notes, it does have a lot of kids, mostly because of the crayons and paper, and the fact that if kids make a bunch of noise here, its not too distracting above the hubbub.

I enjoyed Zio's but I only have been once and it was years ago. I use to eat all the time right down the street at Angelo's Pizza and Pasta Restaurant. The food and prices were great. I haven't been in years though. I have been trying to get back over there for a few months now.

Obviously, in this as in all chain restaurants, the experience can differ from location to location. I've only been to the one I mentioned above. And it was not good.

I'm pleased to hear others have had better luck. I'll have to give it another try.

TexasJeep -- I ate a LOT at Angelo's too. Given a choice, I'd rather go there, and we often did go to Angelo's when Zios wait was too long. It was always a few notches better, and MUCH quieter.
