Yea, there's not much around that area but lots of great spots downtown. Try Cucina Toscana for great Italian!

We have a pretty hip food town, but that area is a culinary wasteland best I can tell. If we're talking an expense account meal you are going to want to set your sights on downtown SLC. There are a handful of good steak places, my preference being Fleming's. If your guest(s) are a bit more adventurous you should look into Tipica or Pago (rezzies required for the latter). The 2 kitchens are headed up by former partners in The Globe Cafe, one of the area's most beloved defunct establishments, and both will deliver dining experiences that will have everyone at your table talking for some time.
