fine dining near Rancho Santa Margarita

RUNNERFEMME Jul 14, 2009 01:34 PM

I want to buy a friend a gift certificate for a great restaurant near his home in Rancho Santa Margarita, but I am clueless about what's out there b/c I live in Baltimore. Suggestions are most welcome. I want something really lovely that he would not treat himself to.

Thanks much!

Not much fine dining in RSM. How much do you want to spend? What types of food does your friend enjoy? There are some good options in Laguna (Montage - great view) or Dana Point (Ritz). I can help out if you give some more info.

Rancho Santa Margarita is in Orange County and many of the posts for that area you will find on the Los Angeles board. (El Toro, Ladera Ranch, San Juan Capistrano, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita). If you have time, maybe post on the Los Angels Board with this (or search for those cities in existing posts).

I have to agree with janeyoc that there is not a top of the heap place in Rancho Santa Margarita or "lovely . . . not treat himself" kind of place.

That said, there is a place wth great steak. Maybe the best steak in OC if you like a casual atmopshere.
      Trabuco Oaks Steakhouse
      20782 Trabuco Oaks Dr
      Trabuco Canyon, CA 92679
      (949) 586-0722
But, it's not fancy. Just excellent steak.

Again, ask on the Los Angeles board and maybe specify mileage from his home. Many people will want to send you to Laguna Beach for the fine dining and that's a pretty long drive.

I concur with kc girl...RSM belongs on the LA Board, and Trabuco Oaks would be my top choice. For a nicer place with a bit of a vibe, you could also do Hannah's in RSM.
