Ribeye Chicken Fried Steak @ Sang’s in Salinas

Visitors coming to Salinas, home of the California Rodeo, for BIG WEEK and looking for big breakfast or lunch portions might want to head to Sang’s Café in Old Town.

My mom and I had breakfast there a few months ago. She had a combo breakfast that was good value for the money, and I ordered the ribeye chicken fried steak breakfast, $10.95. The nine-ounce choice ribeye CFS can be ordered for breakfast or lunch. On the breakfast, it comes with two eggs, toast, and your pick of hash browns, rice and gravy, grits or home fries. The hash browns were browned well to be nice and crisp, if somewhat mushy inside. The house-prepped steak was medium rare with a good crust. The milk gravy didn’t have a whole lot of meat in it, but was well-flavored with bacon-y depth. Eggs over easy were just that.

Not high cuisine by any means, Sang’s is a good option for steak and eggs in the morning.

Thanks Melanie. Adding Sang's to my Central Coast list of places. That ribeye CFS photo looks exactly like my kind of breakfast!!!

Now I can say that I've had CFS made with ribeye, as well as fiet mignon and NY cut. This was the tastiest of those three versions, and even still I could barely eat half of it.
