Sezmu in Reno

Four of us had dinner at Sezmu in Reno on Saturday night. It was the first time there for all of us, and we all agreed it was one of the best meals we've had in our 7 years in Reno.

Two of us had the chicken breast with parmesan-fava pudding - wonderful flavors! My wife said that her salmon was perfectly cooked, and our fourth diner had the osso buco, which fell off the bone.

I could write a full-scale review, but I won't. Suffice it to say that the food here is exceptional, and seems to be based on whatever is freshest at the time. I'd rate the food at 4+ stars and the service at 4 stars. The ambiance doesn't quite stand up to eveything else, since it's in an old, converted brick building, but they've tried hard to make it comfortable, in spite of the hard surfaces causing it to be a bit noisy.

The food alone, though, could make this one of my favorite places in Reno for a great meal.

We have a rental house on Mount Rose Street, west of there, but haven't been yet. All I read is positive.

    2. My daughter lived in the apartments directly across the street from Sezmu while attending college. She and her boyfriend would go there for special occasions. One time a gentleman at the table next to them kept loudly exclaiming throughout dinner that,"the flavors....they are exploding on my palate!" She thinks he meant it as a compliment. She liked it alot but it was a little out of her college budget. When I learned she was eating there semi- regularly, I decided to relook at the monthly subsidy her dad and I were giving her. Got to love a budding chowhound though

IT took you so long to try it? Despite all the raves by Janet, Andy and moi? For shame. For shame. ;-)
We'll have to do another chow down there.

        1. Sezmu has apparently closed and will reopen in March as a gastro-pub.

Someone reported on Yelp they visited the place and it's like it was before, only the fancy schmancy bar is gone. I still have not been back. The gastro pub idea is out, though.

We drove by at 10pm last night (Thurs.) and it was definitely open but no customers which is probably not unusual for Reno on a "school night."

It's usually closed at 10 p.m., at least on week nights.
