Still crazy to get into Babbo?

I remember two years ago when I booked it for my mother's birthday it was near impossible to get a reservation. You truly needed to book it that one month in advance to the day. Is it the same now with the bad economy and the fact it seems many people seem to be over the hype?

I for one loved Babbo my one time there and would like to go back to try some of the dishes I didn't eat the first time. Is it still a viable option to walk in there on a weeknight at 5pm and try to get a table? I may try to do that one day this week as I will be dining solo. I know many people who have said they have gone in alone without a reservation at 5pm when they open and have gotten a table at the bar. Is this still true? Thanks guys for the help.

  1. steakrules,

We have not been to Babbo and afaik, one still have to do the one-month-in-advance telephone tango -- which I absolutely refuse to do. Neither are we the walk-in-without-a-reservation types. So, as of now, Babbo is out for us! But if *you* are willing to do a walk-in and dine at the bar, I have read many posts indicating that it is a viable option.

    1. Walking in is definitely do-able if you go early enough. Last time I did it was a good experience until about 7 or 7:30 when the place got completely mobbed and people were falling all over us trying to get the bartenders attention.

If you are really a fan of their food it would probably be worth it. It definitely isn't for me.

Good to know .. thanks guys. I would assume if you go early enough at around 5, by 6:30-7 you should be done right in time to beat the night rush.

I went a few weeks ago, walk-in around 7pm. We only had to wait 15 minutes for a table for 3.
