Anything remotely kosher here? We're staying near balsam lake -- I'm wondering what options there might be?

I do not think you will find much in St Croix, WI - other than usual staples in the grocery stores. The closest spot would in Minneapolis - eitehr Fishman's Kosher Deli or the Byerly's in St Louis Park a suburb of Minneapolis -

I concur its only about an hours drive to Minneapolis, and Byerlys has one of the nicest Kosher setups in one of the nicest grocery stores i have ever been in, its a tad on the pricey side but its quality. fishmans kosher is also a nice little one stop kosher shop it be worth the trip in to Minnesota its beautiful this time of year.(not cold). There is also an Isreali joint in the same St. Louis Park Neghborhood, try the walleye its a Minnesota favorite . for an added treat it is well worth a stop at any of the three Breadsmith locations in Mn all of which are kosher and all for which are fantastic go on a day when they are making cinnamon buns. http://www.minnesotakosher.org/restaurantsbakeries.html
