artisan bread miami?

i was wondering where one can procure really good bread in the miami area? and is there any good sourdough around town?

it seems that the top restaurants around town (i.e. Michael's Genuine) get their bread baked for them specially from private bakers. that makes perfect sense and all, but I am wondering where the common folk, like myself, can go and get quality fresh baked bread?

admittedly, i am spoiled in having moved here from Berkeley where it was easy as pie to head to Acme Bread or the Cheeseboard for some of the best bread ever. while i don't necessarily expect to find that kind of quality of bread in south florida, my fingers are crossed and i am very hopeful.

any and all suggestions are welcome.

thanks in advance.

Even though they are in Fort Lauderdale http://www.edelweissbakeryfl.net/ this place has bread good enough that I drive from Palm Beach to go there

Have you checked out "Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day"?
      http://www.amazon.com/Artisan-Bread-F...

I've been making bread and pizza from this book, and it's pretty darn good!

I was hoping for some hidden locations that I didn't know about :( I have found bread to be edible from Pauls, Epicure and Panera... Hopefully has a line on one of the restaurant's bread suppliers.

What about Renaissance Baking Company in the San Souci area of North Miami? I know they supply restaurants and shops, but I purchased artisan breads there years ago. Not sure if they still sell to the public, but their bread is worth an inquiry.

I thought they closed a few years ago.

              Aww, really? That's too bad.

I'd like to keep your hope alive, but can't in good conscience do so. Bread is an area that's severely lacking here. You're looking at Whole Foods and such and independent places aren't much better. There's a French chain called Paul that's not too bad. Bread at local supermarkets is horrendous. But at least places here will slice bread for you, unlike Acme (that always drove me crazy!).
