Fried scallops

Had amazing fried scallops yesterday at the Clam Box in Ipswich. Lightly battered, with a rich brown colour.

Where in Somerville/Cambridge would provide a comparable experience?

I've always thought that the fried scallops were the tastiest of the fried seafood offerings at Celebrity in Watertown (very close to Cambridge on Mt. Auburn past the Star Market). But last week I had their fried seafood plate -- a ridiculous amount of food for about $20, easily can feed two -- and, beyond the scallops, the clams were excellent and the shrimp, much to my surprise, were even better (big ones, but only two). Also comes with a little cup of decent cole slaw, fried fish, french fries, onion rings, tartar and cocktail sauces, and lemon wedge. It was the best seafood I've ever gotten there and I'm hoping that it wasn't a fluke (no pun intended). While I've always thought of Celebrity as a decent place for a fried seafood fix, it's suddenly approaching North Shore goodness. I'm eager to return, but I need to wait another couple of weeks so I can recover from the massive fried food indulgence.

The fried seafood at Out of the Blue in Davis Square is pretty decent.

Kelly's has really good fried scallops, and the best tartar IMO.

I hit the Clam Box in Ipswich over the weekend as well and tried their combo platter (lucky I had help eating it because it was hugggeeee)-:
The maine shrimp were totally bland. The fried clams were good (and I even liked the partial stomachs to my surprise). The scallops were wayyyyy better than the clams...perfectly cooked and sweet. And the Kelly's ones (at least the one in Everett) is no comparison. The Clam Box ones were bigger and sweeter than the ones I've had at Kelly's in the past.
I don't want to see any more fried food for another month or two, but I'd be sorely tempted by more clam box scallops :-)

what do you mean by "partial stomachs"? either they're full-belly clams or strips, aren't they?

Usually full belly clams have bigggggggggg bellies. These weren't that big and weren't full of partially digested stuff that tastes like mud...

sounds like "small" full belly clams. i much prefer the large belly..but they should not taste like mud..just creamy deliciousness.

I know some prefer the smaller or med size bellies..but not me.

i like the big ones too and have eaten about a billion pounds over the years. never had one taste like mud. i do know the texture can kinda freak people out though, lol.

Not Cambridge/Somerville but Dolphin Seafood in Quincy Market has very good fried scallops (with beeer, unlikel Clambox (which I love).

I've realized that I meant to plug the Salty Dog in Quincy Market, Dolphin Seafood is in Harvard Square.

I love Moulton's fried scallops - but worth a try is Court House Seafood on Cambridge Street in East Cambridge - the small portion is HUGE!

East Coast Grill sometimes offers them as their fried fish-of-the-day. They're awesome.

Thanks. I am there from time to time, and would definitely check them out having had my epiphany yesterday.

Moulton's is on a lot of lists.

Ditto Moulton's. It's in Medford but quite close to Somerville, has street or lot parking and the price is oh-so-right. All seafood is impeccably fresh and the fry job on the scallops is so light and perfect, i can devour a whole plate of them with little difficulty :)

I'm definitely going to try Moulton's. Thanks!
