After a performance at MSG, we popped in for a quick bite before heading back up town. We didn't have time to browse the neighborhood, and there have been some reasonable posts about Tracks. The bar was fairly busy, but the dining room was almost empty at 5 p.m. Yes, it was early. We both ordered the fish and chips. The fish was cod, fried in beer batter, the chips were waffle fries, They latter were good, hot, and crisp, and just what a fat waffle fry should be. The logs of fried cod were nice to look at, nicely browned and crisp on the outside. The batter crust next to the fish was damp and soggy. Too bad. I peeled the crust off and found lovely, flavorful fish. I settled for that, with some of the good tartar sauce. They didn't skimp on the lemon wedges. The service was pleasant. I doubt I'll have occasion to eat there again, but I saw a burger that looked worthwhile.

I work in NJ and live in Brooklyn, so occasionally meet my husband there. The fish and chips seems to have gone down in quality over the past few months (and I prefer UK style chips qua chips, not waffle fries), but the oysters are always good and their summer lobster "festival" is worthwhile and decently priced. Not a destination restaurant but useful on the way to and from.

Thanks, Buttertart. There was sign outside about the lobster, but since I'd read good things about the fish and chips, and have a long vacation in Maine to look forward to, I decided to skip the lobster. Wish I hadn't!

They really were better a while ago. Batter has been changed (or oil was too hot) - I was a "chippie" way back when so am very picky indeed about my f&c. However, a Maine vacation should supply all the lobster a heart could wish for!

Hi Pat, good to hear from you. I wind up at Penn Station from time to time, and I've dropped in at Tracks more than once. I have nothing bad to say about the bar service, which has been professional and friendly. For non-liquid orders I've tried only the fried calamari, which was just average. Haven't tried the raw bar, which others say is a good bet.

Thanks. Next time I'll hang out at the bar! The fish beneath the batter was very good, actually.

The burgers are indeed decent. I believe the owner also runs Bruce's Burgers in the alley next to K-Mart on 34th.
