Again, enjoying your photos.

This restaurant has been "slammed" by some Chowhounds in the last few months.

Are you ever critical of your food--I have only seen positive comments.

im only critical if it is a completely horrible experience.. food/service/the company..
i enjoy the entire dining experience.. so the company of the meal makes a big difference for me

well, some of his comments are very complimentary, some are so-so, and some are like "we didn't like this too much."

read into it what you will...

I tend to be more analytical and love to read "analytical" reviews. For me it provides a clearer picture (pardon the pun!) of the strengths and weaknesses of a given restaurant.

Photos are a great adjunct to a detailed review, and his photos are very well done!!

I guess your photos can't convey aspects such as the company and the gestalt of the dining experience. I must say that out of all of your reviews, Sona's food did not look as scrumptious as other places. Presentation was a bit stark and deconstructed for me. Perhaps the components melded together well once you took a bite, but the food did not look that inviting. Glad you enjoyed yourself though.

BTW, do you think that restaurants that you so fastiduously document work harder for you on presentation, taste, portions, etc. than for the average diner since they know you are capturing everything on film (even though you tell them you're not a critic)?

Thanks for that great report on Sona. Truly a restaurant I wanted to try beforehand, and now you verified that it will be at the top of my list of must-go restaurants. Since I like modern art, David truly takes food to a different artistic level. He may not be alone at that level, but the challengers are few!

Do you use the flash when you are taking those photos ? I have been to Sona and it is pretty dark in there as I recall. Anyways, assuming you use flash, have any of the restaurant staff or their patrons ever reacted negatively to you taking pictures ? Just wondering. By the way, another fantastic report - you really are causing quite the stir. I also tried the nine course at Sona with the wine pairing and found it to be a great experience - although I thought they could have provided nicer wines...I recall one of the wines they served with the red meat course was one I had purchased at Costco for $25 a bottle...still, it was a good wine...

i usually take pics with NO flash.. even in Sona.. i just open up the shutter speed longer and use VERY VERY steady hands.. and then when i get home i use photoshop to brighten things up if needed.. only if a restaurant is DARK DARK then im forced to use my flash.. have never gotten any comments or reaction from patrons and or staff there
