Fujiyama Sushi in North dallas
We eat sushi 2-3 times a week. But Im a purely non-seafood guy and my fiancee is a purely sushi girl, so we need a place that does both well. This one does just that. Its a small, modern place on the northwest corner of frankford and midway. Its really a great find if you like creative rolls like a mango tango (tuna, salmon, mango, strawberries, yellowtail) and light faire (ie butterfly kisses-- salmon, crab and lemon) but the standard rolls are well prepared and very fresh. Service was very friendly and the sushi chef said he will make any roll you like or let you design your own (everyone spoke perfect english as well).
Gyoza and yakitori were both great. Open sundays which is also nice. This is now on our sushi rotation list with nobu, shinsei, sushi robata, and 560.
That's nice that you two have found a good balance, and pretty funny to me since I've got the polar opposite situation as you. Based on your rotation I can see how overall there's a balance that makes both of you happy.
So how about sashimi and non-roll sushi? Also, do they have any sort of happy hour or specials? I am mostly curious to know if there's anything noteworthy on the menu besides the rolls.
Sorry, I cant comment on the sashimi as we didnt have any. They had several specials and the prices, alhough not as low as shushi robata, were below average for the quantity you received. (For instance, my fiancee ordered a roll and asked for avacado to be added. Not only did they put a tiny bit inside the roll but also decorated the outside with quite a bit.)
